General recycling includes aluminum cans, bottles, cups, jugs, paper, cardboard, and more. Remember: recycle plastics by shape, bottles, jars, jugs, cups, and tubs. General recycling will not only save tremendous amounts of space at landfills but it will also bring in money for those who decide to recycle bottles and cans. With an added benefit of saving energy and reducing pollution, people will feel better that they are doing their part to conserve their environment.
For the most current recycling information please visit Recycle Right
For example, it takes 20 times MORE energy to make aluminum from bauxite ore than using recycled aluminum; not to mention the more raw materials used in production translates into more mining sites needed to gather these resources. Household Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous waste is "any hazardous waste generated incidental to owning or maintaining a place of residence. Household hazardous waste does not include any waste generated in the course of operating a business at a residence” (California Health and Safety Code Section 25218.1(e)). There are a lot of common household items that, when no longer needed, are considered hazardous waste. These items include, but are not limited to, paints, automotive fluids, vehicle and household cleaners, drain openers, lawn care products, pest control products, BBQ propane cylinders, and pool care products such as chlorine and acids.
Improperly disposed household hazardous waste can create a potential risk to people and the environment and is illegal to dispose of in the trash. Some household cleaners may be harmful separately or even deadly when combined, such as ammonia and bleach. In addition to potentially harming environment, many household hazardous waste items can injure trash collection and landfill workers when they are thrown in the trash. Because of these hazards, household hazardous waste must be managed properly by residents. Riverside County Department of Waste Resources offers FREE Household Hazardous Waste Collection events throughout the year and there are permanent facilities available year around that serve the public.
